@MaddieM4 The thing I note is that often the community rally around the central figure as well.
Tying in with points 2 and 3 theres a demand that we just get behind and support the figurehead for the greater good.

A group of people that only values the superficial experience of steady peacefulness will often end up turning against the victims of unfair treatment, because the original unfair treatment could happen quietly within the superficial peace, but the conflict intrinsic to addressing the problem _can't_ fit in the superficial peace. So whoever breaks the illusion is the bad guy that the group turns on. There's a reason so many petty tyrants love this model, and the way everyone else gets quiet to appease them, the burden of peace always on their own shoulders instead of the tyrant's. My marriage was like that! I don't miss it!

@MaddieM4 Also, this "dividing the community" cry tends to mean
a) the community was divided already,
b) the person complaining about division didn't or didn't want to see it,
c) the event made the division visible, and
d) the person wants to unsee.
It's not actually that the event created the division. It never is. It's just that it pulled the wool from some eyes.
A useful hack!
For 10,000,000 years, I've had a scan of my sig on my computer. When I get sent a form for a signature, I open it in the GIMP, open the signature JPG, paste the latter into the former, set the layer to "multiply" and align it.
This morning, I pasted that same JPG as a *brush*. Now I just select that brush and click once on the signature line!
This is incredibly obvious, but it never occurred to me, and maybe it's useful for you, too.
@pluralistic Most of the signatures I have to add to forms these days come in an electronic signing system.
But yes, we've had our signatures scanned for decades. Going back to the time when I moved money around in my wife's accounts whilst she was travelling, by sending her bank faxes I'd written with her signature pasted in. Scaled slightly differently each time, in case making it always pixel identical was too much of a giveaway.

Re-posting this video again. I've tried it out and yeah, laminated cardboard with wheat paste totally works, the result is as strong as wood (and a little lighter.)
This is a near-perfect way to bootstrap structures and buildings. You can use waste cardboard, and wheat paste is incredibly cheap.
I want to try sodium silicate ("waterglass") as a glue, it should make the resulting material fireproof and as durable as stone.
