My baby cousin called me in tears because all her accounts have been compromised. We went over possible infection vectors (the “try my game” DM scam etc) and nothing stood out. But then she wondered if they’d gotten a foothold through the Canvas ransom somehow.
Has anyone else heard of students getting their personal accounts popped very recently in a way that might be tied to the Canvas incident?

Unter dem Deckmantel der Souveraenitaet verkauft auch W Social zentralisierte Ideen... jetzt sogar ohne die Moeglichkeit diese anonym zu nutzen.
@pallenberg @_elena das ist so schade, insbesondere da es bereits eine Instanz zumindest für Deutschland mit Bund.social gibt, einfach noch eine EU.social aufsetzen und dann kann man immer noch auf bluesky rüber bridgen um eine höhere Reichweite zu bekommen.
Wahrscheinlich gibt es das für die EU hier auf mastodon auch schon.

It was absolutely inevitable that the fascist right would wake up and recognize the LLM industry is a potent propaganda channel, and try to monopolize it (via "regulation").
Idiots trust anything the chatbot tells them to be truthful.

Just read this write-up on the state of iNaturalist, really depressing to read, but at the end of it, @kueda.net@bsky.brid.gy points out using AP or AT protocols to rebuild would be a positive step in the right direction.

@cstross @quixoticgeek That is light, you are correct. I've had real influenza three times; all three times were *weeks* of sickness and required hospital stays (and I have no existing conditions).
I don't think we'll *ever* get people to stop using the term "the flu", but we *can* start using the term "influenza" when we mean, you know, influenza.
"The flu," like has been said, sounds potentially mild. I have noticed a different reaction out of people when I use the full term "influenza."
