Parliament voted down a motion on April 15 to ban a practice most Canadians have never heard of, but that retailers are already rolling out: surveillance pricing.

Solo il canale tv eh. Ma ci accontentiamo.
Cosa guarderà ora Red Ronnie in tv ? 🤔

Today's @pluralistic essay hits a little close to home https://pluralistic.net/2026/05/06/champerty-loves-company/
"Conservative strongmen like Trump and Musk exalt the value of self-determination – for themselves, at everyone else's expense. Trump's ability to stiff the contractors that built his hotels and Musk's ability to rain flaming rocket debris down on the people who live near his company town require that everyone else be stripped of protections."
Rain cold private astronaut debris down on Canadian farmland. That too.
We build tools that protect journalists and human rights defenders from surveillance and censorship. But sustaining them requires new ways of funding them.
We’ve been working on something new. May 19

Bit the inside of my lip the other day, like, really badly
Not bleeding but did break (skin???). And now it's swollen cause it's irritated. Which means I keep accidentally biting it cause it's bigger now
This is gonna suck until it heals

@david_chisnall @numodular @georgetakei
focus on the local politics, focus on the psychology
i hear you
so 3 candidates
1. a MAGA chud
2. a spineless centrist democrat
3. a serious left candidate
the left vote, whether 20 people or 20 million, is divided. the MAGA chud wins
howabout:
do what you say, with local psychology...
and the serious left candidate beats the spineless centrist in the primary
takes over the democrats
and beats MAGA
no?
this is AOC, Bernie, Mamdani, etc
@benroyce @numodular @georgetakei
Once again, you're talking about an election. To go back to my very first post in this thread: the important thing is what happens across N rounds of elections.
You can't model any of this usefully when you think about an election, you have to think about the behaviour across multiple elections. Someone else did this elsewhere in the thread.
@CryptPad l had registered for the webinar two days ago, but was unable to attend. May l have a recording of the discussion that took place ??
@codewizard Hello, sorry for the late reply and thanks for your interest in CryptPad. You should have received the recording by now.
🚨 The UK says it wants to "protect children online"
Yet, forcing EVERYONE to verify their age won't stop harm - but put all of us under surveillance.
Today, we've signed an open letter together with @mullvad @Tor @mozilla & others to stop #AgeVerification in the UK 💪

@RonJeffries I think if I renamed ‘utils.py’ to ‘jumbled_farrago_of_miscellany.py’, I’d find other places to put homeless code.
@RonJeffries@mastodon.social @jwhitlock@mastodon.social Careful though, it probably goes both ways. I could see smorgasbord.py getting quite large quite quickly.
