Ring has announced a new “Search Party” feature that could eventually bring mass biometric surveillance to our streets. It’s on by default. Shut it off.

And then rip all your Ring crap out and cancel everything Amazon. Please.

@benpate @wordsmith @futzle Thanks so much! That's very thoughtful.
Mallory Knodel is going to this event to talk about AI and distributed social networks. There are some obvious benefits -- naive Bayesian techniques have been used for decades for spam filtering, for example -- but some obvious downsides, like washing out human content with AI-generated images and text.
@benpate @wordsmith @futzle I think there are some things we can do on the Fediverse today to deal with these issues. One is to add a flag to AI-generated text, images, or videos, so people who don't want to see them can easily filter them out. Another might be having machine-readable ways to tell if an instance uses AI techniques for moderation and filtering.
@idzie LOL i completely believed "treat" was intended!!!! "eyes can have little a no-glasses time, as a treat"

Periodic reminder that "good billionaire" Marc Benioff is still a massive piece of shit.
In his keynote, Benioff thanked international Salesforce employees for traveling to the United States for the meeting, and asked them to stand. Benioff then said...

Thank you for your vote of confidence in me. I’ll do my best to be transparent and good faith in everything I do.
I should add that the end-to-end-encryption project I’m doing is funded by the SWF. And so far I’ve had only good interactions with everyone there.
I don’t know anything about this AI initiative. But there are good reasons for us to set guardrails on *how* this tech intersects our network, and I’d give the SWF the benefit of the doubt until more info comes out.

@LRRRonEarth I knew you were from outer space but didn’t know you were Klingon
IT'S COOL. I HAVE KLINGON FRIENDS.

The trial set to play out in Los Angeles Superior Court until the end of March will serve as a critical test for thousands of similar lawsuits that target not only Meta and Google, but also TikTok and Snap. https://www.japantimes.co.jp/business/2026/02/11/tech/youtube-lawyer-addiction-videos/?utm_medium=Social&utm_source=mastodon #business #tech #instagram #tiktok #snapchat #youtube #facebook #socialmedia #alphabet #google #addiction

Courtesy a climate-related account on LI, take a look at this. Just so's ya know, the current extent of our climate crisis and the worse that is to come was entirely a choice that was made. For us, not by us, but it was a choice.

And the fossil fuel industry still spends millions corrupting Courts, Congress, and Agencies and lobbying to be granted immunity for ecocide.

@richardh I'd say it's an adjectival form for something related to trousers... similarly pant in the context of pants. "Sale of pants is the domain of the pant seller."
@artnacrea
@artnacrea @lightweight I was thinking about that. I still think the adjective might rely on what the singular is presumed to be? But I'm running out of linguistics (maybe I only had one linguistic to begin with?) :-)
