What’s next for crowdfunding?
If you're an existing backer, the pledge manager is now open. Please keep an eye out for updates there so we can start preparing rewards for you.
The campaign is open again for the next month. With core maintenance funded, every new pledge (or increased pledge from existing backers) now goes directly toward our first stretch goal: federated groups. Support or share our extended campaign to help fund community-owned, cross-instance spaces for real collaboration and self-governance.
Bonus good news: Thanks to a new grant, end-to-end encrypted messaging in Bonfire is now funded and in development!

Today I was blessed to witness the relief and joy of someone who had accidentally left their phone on the train, only to discover that a helpful stranger had grabbed it and travelled back to the station where they got off, and were waiting on the corner to return it.

@scottjenson I could get used to this. But I would prefer the trigger for the New Post modal to be above the feed. Sort of a smaller version of the form that opens a modal.
(I thought I saw a mockup for that on GitHub, but can't seem to be able to find it.)
@scottjenson honestly I didn't even realise that there was a non-advanced 3-column view. I currently use advanced for the separate columns, but my point is I would switch to the simple version if it could do this

I am happy to report that the traffic we get from OpenAI has once again doubled over the past month. We now block ~ half a million requests per day.
As of 23 January, Facebook IP addresses have also started at around 100k requests per day. That may be courtesy of a change to one of the AWS-managed rulesets though.
Does anyone believe the powerful people in the Epstein files have stopped abusing women and girls after Epstein's operation was shut down? Was it shut down? Who is doing the trafficking now?

@evacide the article doesn't mention it, but it's well known to researchers that facial recognition is especially unreliable when the subject is not a fair-skinned Caucasian.

To me it doesn't look substantially different to Twitter, Threads or Bluesky. I would think users of those systems, or even Facebook, would find it familiar.

The Network State is a self-contradiction. Pick one.
I can envision a Network Government, which does the few positive things governments do (long term infrastructure planning, funding pure research, coordinating public services). The Rojova Revolution is a case study in this.
But the very things that make it meaningful to use 'network' in the phrase exclude it from being a state. At least as an anarchist or IR realist would use the term.

Same with 'Partner State'. The ideas in Michel Bauwens' writing on this are worth exploring. But what they describe is less a type of state and more an alternative to having a state. Something well worth considering the ongoing devolution of the 'nation-state' as we know it;

@negative12dollarbill Oh, I'm afraid to tell you that it is actually VERY broke. That's why I'm exploring this. I appreciate it's not broke for you. But we've got lots of user feedback that this is overly complex and off putting to many new users.
But it's also VERY clear that changing this for EVERYONE forcefully would be a big no-no. I'm not suggesting that. I'm just trying to say if this was an OPTION, would people like it?

@mcc IIRC Robert Bringhurst in The Elements of Typographic Style argues for thin spaces around the em dash. No option in the poll for that!
@layoutSubviews The limit here for grid-tied is 27 kW yeah, with the potential to go beyond that if you don't tie it into the grid obviously
@christianselig @layoutSubviews are you sure they won’t limit you for non-grid tied? You also don’t want to cut the grid tie IMHO.
I had 15kW on my house which was tons for 2 EV’s, a heat pump, full family, and hefty count of powered devices.
No batteries though. Ideally if a storm is coming — charge early… my hope would be Vehicle to Home charging in an emergency vs worrying about charging both EV’s via a battery.
Having some silly fun with @stegodon a new fediverse platform with an SSH TUI interface. The first screenshot is the web profile, the second is the TUI interface.
This is the first command line UI for ActivityPub client I've seen that has an actual backend server platform tied to it.

@cybeardjm You can get a close approximation of what would happen by just resizing your existing web page a bit thinner. The "tablet" media query will kick in and you'll get something pretty close to this (but nav on the right) You can play with the New Post button and see how it would behave (assuming we don't many any changes to it of course)
