The Network State is a self-contradiction. Pick one.

I can envision a Network Government, which does the few positive things governments do (long term infrastructure planning, funding pure research, coordinating public services). The Rojova Revolution is a case study in this.

But the very things that make it meaningful to use 'network' in the phrase exclude it from being a state. At least as an anarchist or IR realist would use the term.

Same with 'Partner State'. The ideas in Michel Bauwens' writing on this are worth exploring. But what they describe is less a type of state and more an alternative to having a state. Something well worth considering in the face of the ongoing devolution of the 'nation-state' as we know it;
