Just want to add my voice here: I have a friend who lives in Minneapolis who said the same thing on Friday. She’s heard the story that they’re pulling out, but there’s been no change at all on the ground, and they’re still under siege.

Re: It's probably less of a problem now that the fediverse is much bigger (than it was 5 years ago).
Right, which ActivityPub.Space follows and auto categorizes, which ends up as a way for microblog content to make its way into the threadiverse. @strypey@mastodon.nzoss.nz
@silverpill@mitra.social sorry for interjecting 😁
I should be playing video games but I just keep watching tv and movies.
Okay A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms. what do you got?

Armed ICE at polling places isn’t about “election integrity.” It’s voter intimidation. Guns don’t belong near ballots. Democracy requires safety, not fear—especially for citizens exercising a constitutional right. This is authoritarian rot.
@agiletortoise We said goodbye to ours of 16 years last summer. It's never easy. But as we had to remind ourselves, the final gift we can give them is a smooth, calm transition out. And as our vet said, her last day doesn't have to be her worst day. Look into services like Lap of Love, it was pricey but very worth it for the memory you'll carry after she passes. Sending the best to you and her and your family. 🧡
@stevestreza Thanks, Steve

@mttaggart @skribe nice! it's a great resource, glad it's all good.
@zackwhittaker @mttaggart all good now. Thanks.
A judge orders the Trump administration to reinstall an exhibit about slavery at the President's House Site in Philadelphia. https://www.cbsnews.com/philadelphia/news/slavery-exhibits-presidents-house-site-philadelphia-orders/
The House just passed the SAVE America Act for the third year running. It would require documentary proof of citizenship to register to vote in federal elections. At least 21 million U.S. citizens don't even have driver's licenses, let alone passports or birth certificates. (thread)
@sbeebe Mostly from Christchurch, NZ but also Point Arenas, Argentina and South Africa. They did tours that lasted about six months.
@Av8rdan thank you. Great picture of deboarding, it shows both the Herculean engineering and mundane trudge of travel.
@valpackett The point of licenses like the GPL is that *everyone* has the same rights. "Owners" are not special, so they can't rugpull or take advantage of contributors. This is what enables equal forks.
If you fork an AGPL+CLA project, you can't have a CLA any more because the fork does not inherit the special privileges of the original owner. The CLA permanently enshrines the "original" author as superior to everyone else as long as that repo exists.
As a contributor, my expectation is that if I spend my time to contribute to your project for free, that my contribution will not be later be part of a rugpull where the repo owner flips to a commercial enterprise and stops doing FOSS. If there's a CLA that allows them to do that, I won't contribute in the first place.
If they *want* to be able to do that, then the whole repo should be MIT so *everyone else* gets to do that too. It's only fair.
#CrowUpdate So on Sunday, I went for a walk around the neighborhood to look for the crows and I finally found them. Both on the same pole at the northern limit of their territory. Both of them being on the same pole is not usual in the middle of the day (from what I could gather from the few times I saw them do it is that it's a "defensive" position).
When they saw me, Ms Crow followed me to the nearest open space (a small parking lot) for peanuts, but Mr Crow didn't move a bit. ⤵️
"Cargo cult science means conforming to misaligned incentives. For academics, it optimizes the proxy objective “publish journal articles,” which has increasingly diverged from the actual objective, understanding natural phenomena."
https://betterwithout.ai/stop-obstructing-science
What's responsible for this? The managerialism that now grips most universities and other #research institutions. In which job security and promotion depends - at least in part - on the quantity of journal articles published.
