#CrowUpdate (no pics) So I haven't seen the crows much during the past few days (one reason could be the cold). I also noticed some other crows (the "south crows" probably) flying around the park a little bit too much.
Well, I got a picture of the situation a few minutes ago. I was at my desk when I saw a crow flying and landing on a pole, but... I can't explain... I could tell right away it wasn't one of "my" crows. ⤵️
#CrowUpdate kind of. The picture is from yesterday on campus. It's a crow completely unfazed that I'm walking right past it, and that I'm stopping to take a picture. He just looked at me for a second and resumed eating.
I kinda wish "my" crows were so unworried about humans, but they don't have hundreds of humans walking around them daily without paying attention to them.
On a side note, I haven't seen "my" crows in three days. I'm getting a bit worried. ⤵️
Mr Crow was not in the mood to come down this morning (yesterday evening either). It's that time of the year again when it's cold, and his wings are damaged and he conserves his energy as much as possible.
⤵️
He did come down a little later, while I was bringing my son to school.
I'm really wondering what's up with his wings. Every winter now many big feathers get broken. I always assumed it came from fights with black kites and unfriendly crows, but Ms Crow is fine, and while it's not uncommon for crows to get some damage on their wings, it's never that bad with other crows. I'm starting to wonder if he has a condition that makes his feather more fragile? No idea.

Mr Crow pondering where to hide his two peanuts.
Update: Funny how I don't usually post pictures of the #crows when their beaks are full of peanuts because they're not the best pics in my opinion. But I guess y'all disagree as it's probably my most popular crow picture in a long time if not ever.

Not greedy at all.
It's so cold out, I say, take as many as you can, dear one!
I adore these crows.
In exchange for peanuts they once brought me an unknown animal rib and dropped it on my doorstop.

I'm pretty happy with this picture of Mr Crow from this morning.
(that's all, probably the shortest #CrowUpdate ever)
Mr Crow (2026/01/30)
Good morning Mr Crow. Wow, you're hungry this morning.
(fun fact: later, I was on the balcony, and Ms Crow landed on the guardrail - something she never does when I'm there - and she quickly realized it "wow, what am I doing there?" and flew of to the closest pole. It's partly my fault, when I heard her land, I shouldn't have turned around and spoken to her).
Could they be kids from the previous years? Or just one of them? With their new spouse? And Junior from a previous year introduced their spouse to Mr Crow as he can't roost and can't meet the new family member at the usual gatherings?
Or am I reading way too much into that?
Still, it's the first time I see not one, but two unknown crows land on "my" crows' territory and the latter being okay with it.
🤔
Okay, this update is far too long already, let's end it here.
Just one last thing ⤵️
If you're disappointed by the lack of interesting pictures (I am too), maybe you missed those ones from the other day:
Birding (January 20th, 2026)
Last week I even noticed the "south crows" arriving circling above the park and leaving disappointed. Are they responsible for Mr Crow's injuries? Maybe maybe not. There are other suspects. The black kites. Black kites and crows have a strange relationship. Sometimes (late winter, early autumn) they mostly ignore each other, sometimes (spring, early summer) crows attack the kites to protect their territory and their babies, but in winter, when it's cold and windy (crows hate windy) ⤵️
It's the black kites messing with the crows as much as they can. I don't think the black kites see crows as potential preys (but I can imagine them being opportunistic about it), however, last week I barely saw the crows because it was quite windy and the black kites took control of the neighborhood, even flying much lower than usual, and Friday morning, wondering if the #crows were around, I went to the park and even before getting there, I saw a kite falling on a black shape leaving a tree! ⤵️
I haven't posted a #CrowUpdate in a while, not because nothing was happening, but because I didn't take any good pictures in a while. But I need to update you a bit of the latest developments.
It may be a bit long. I'll also recap a few things for the new followers coming from my other account and who may be interested.
Let's start with the basics: three years ago, I befriended two #crows (a couple) who live in the park next door (this is not them on the picture)

The latest news.
Let's start with the not-great but not unexpected news. As I suspected, Mr Crow has stopped roosting.
For people not familiar with #crows, they have territories, but in autumn and winter, they gather by the thousands downtown (and on top of hills) to socialize with their friends and families (this is fact, look it up if you don't trust me). However, for the past two years, Mr Crow has had a history of damaged wing feathers that prevent him from flying properly at times. ⤵️
