I quite liked shooting portraits of speakers at FOSDEM, and I wish I had had the time to go to other devrooms and shoot more.
I wonder what conference to go to next, to shoot more of those.

Did someone say #SuperbOwl ?
I've had desire paths running quietly in the background of the my browser over the last 6~ months and it's been a small but consistent joy to stumble onto a page in the middle of the night and find not just old purple links, but also the weird wandering path of mouse hovers and previews and almost-clicks that I once followed. Just waiting there for me

The only Superb Owl that interests me.
@pallenberg eigentlich ist es bei jedem Faschisten irrelevant, was er denkt.
New iPad and iPad Air models should be launching soon, but don’t get too excited https://9to5mac.com/2026/02/08/apple-ipad-and-ipad-air-refresh-coming-soon-new-chips/?utm_source=dlvr.it&utm_medium=mastodon
European solidarity.
@triptych it’s not every day that I hear about a game engine by a car company on a platform I’ve never heard of in a programming language I’ve never heard of
@raccoonformality we are living in a parallel dimension
Why the Resistance Matters
Anti-authoritarian “neighborism” and cross-racial solidarity from below are a massive problem for the regime, exposing Trumpism’s structural weaknesses and ideological blind spots.
Some thoughts from my new piece:

Changed my #Mastodon #privacy defaults to private by default with quotes off.
I like the feel of this; I can’t easily accidentally blast an opinion or belief into the public sphere (privacy of ActivityPub notwithstanding, a topic that’s been covered to pieces) but if I want something public it’s easy to opt-in. So far I enjoy the forced thoughtfulness.
Everyone's posting pictures of owls today, but I think it's important that everyone knows the real reason for the season.

Bring back “class traitor” as a term for those who exploit their peers and serve oligarchs and the ruling class — because they think it’s “inevitable” according to the ruling class propaganda, or their own self-interest and the idea that they will be one of the few who escape or ascend.
You know, LLM users, using an IP laundering service.
@johnbloor @dennyhenke That should be the way, unironically. It’s not all or nothing and it’s not a competition (though if people want to make competitions about it, have at it, whatever gets it done for them.) The more we can each do the more that gets done, and the more blazed the trail becomes for others. The fact that we’re here on mastodon proves alternatives can be developed.

I think the more we talk about our efforts the better. Online, with friends and family... we need to build a culture of action and resistance. I say that about those of us in the US specifically. We've been so passive in our ethics and over active in our consumption.
Working together, encouraging, strategizing, sharing what works and doesn't, seems like a fairly easy and productive way to move forward. But I do think we in the US have all just gone along for the ride, reinforcing the worst behaviors more often than not. In every way possible, we have to turn this ship around. We have decades of inattention to make up for.
After meticulously planning this week's food and deciding we're going to try and phase out plantbased meat alternatives, I was panic-shopping earlier and they had a bunch of Juicy Marbles plantbased steaks reduced to clear that I couldn't turn down, but need to use by tomorrowish. Have therefore decided to flip the whole schedule and am making steak and ale pie with sweet potato fries for Sunday lunch. Lovely. And I'm going to jolly well have a beer aswell. Hurrah!
I think my favourite use of Juicy Marbles was tearing them into chunks and serving them in ramen, as they texturally resemble beef brisket somewhat. They really soaked up the ramen broth nicely. I think they will be amazing in a steak and ale pie for that reason and will soak up the gravy.
I'm also trying to avoid fake meats this year. Unsuccessfully, so far, I should say.
