Every state in the U.S. should pass a law like the one now proposed in California, disqualifying ICE agents from working in state law enforcement and public schools. https://www.sfchronicle.com/politics/article/california-bill-ice-teachers-21318405.php
@heidilifeldman @fsinn It’s a start. Those agents of capitalist repression should be barred from ever sucking on the state teat, and forced to make their way in the private sector. Given how many have criminal records, they’re unlikely to have an easy time finding takers for their ‘abilities’.
G’morning friends !

@urlyman not sure which came first but I really like the easy Plymouth has that extra bit in between connecting the front and back shapes.
But it does look like someone didn't do a basic Google image search before presenting their design
@ronanmcd UoP came first. I think someone *did* do a basic Google image search

Does anyone know the exact location for this new datacentre ? At 85m tall, that's gonna be in the top 30 or so tallest buildings in the city.

I'm a little amazed by the amount of CVEs released by OpenSSL today: https://openssl-library.org/news/vulnerabilities/
12(!) of them were reported by people at Aisle.
Aisle makes an AI-powered code analyzer. That's what they use to find these flaws.
I mean if you are curious what AI can do in Open Source security when used for good.
@bagder This is all so great and a plausible use of the technology, only if not fueled with hype and click-bait: saying that LLM is successful here instead of "AI" would sound more plausible to me. But likely less audience (CEOs) would buy that, so it's all gotta be "AI" hand-waving 😒 Surely enough it's far more advanced than fuzzy testing, pity there are little details on the actual technology published, just hype.

Ah, it was never designed to make the world better. It was designed to make a few people a lot wealthier. And much more powerful. Mostly people who already had yachts and private henchman.
It was designed to allow for what Project 2025 has enacted. It was a long, long game to capture the Seven Mountains by putting in a panopticon. See also the UK and CCtv every few feet.
And it is working perfectly for those on the other side of the camera. Palantir and the surveillance state couldn’t be more pleased. Me personally, I think we should hollow out them there mountains before they get any bigger.

So they can take over Israel , converted the Jews and bring about Revelations. Because they are insane.
“What if data centers were to be seen through the lens of the hydrocommons, where myriads of bodies of water are interconnected—from fish, insects, mammals, and microorganisms, to mountains, dams, humans, and servers?
We might see water evaporate as a large language model is trained. We might see bodies of algae glow when data centers let their hot water run off into lakes. We might see crayfish being flash flooded by energy-hungry, dam-triggering AI-movie productions…
…“We might see tons of sediment spit out by servers responsible for AI-enhanced PDF summaries.”
But we don’t need that to see the probable future of Switzerland’s watersheds in the current trajectory of water supplies to Iranian cities
I kinda love the fact that a significant fraction of the ads LinkedIn shows me, are LITERALLY doormats.
From the Icelandic doormat company!
I didn't even know we had a doormat company, but turns out, we do! And they advertise on LinkedIn!
This is fine.
(Note: This toot is 100% literal truth, no metaphors or subtext. Just real things that happened and amused me.)
@HerraBRE This is almost as good as Amazon, for no apparent reason, advertising horse feed to me many years ago.
The last horse I rode was a family vacation when I was 3.
Do you think Ralph Waldo Emerson and Graeber sit around in heaven calling the other "a bit much"?
So a little while back, @laura wrote an excellent introductory book on accessibility and inclusive design called Accessibility for Everyone for A Book Apart.
Then, A Book Apart folded and the authors managed to get their rights back.
And yesterday, after Laura put a huge amount of work adapting the book into a beautiful website she built using Kitten*, we republished the book under Small Technology Foundation Press.
You can read it for free at:

If you want to support our work that makes such things possible, please consider becoming a patron of Small Technology Foundation. We’re tiny, independent, and not for profit. We reject all types of equity investment (VC, etc.) and won’t be sponsored by or otherwise allow our legitimacy to be used to whitewash Big Tech.

On this day, January 28, in the year 2012, in a face-off with police during the Occupy movement, this enterprising young man in Oakland taught us the proper meaning of "armchair anarchist."
Anything can be a instrument of social change if you use it right. 🏴🖤
