Got a City of Toronto promo email about the 20th anniversary of Nuit Blanche and am going to go die of old age thanks.
I went to the very first one. It was surreal and magical because no one really knew what to expect, you were perpetually unsure of whether quite ordinary things were art installations or not, there was no corporate sponsorship, and fewer people were drunk. It was rainy and that thinned the crowds out, too.
When the second one happened I was working at a shoddily run bakery in Kensington where Wanda's Pie in the Sky is now. I was supposed to work the next day. So I was just like "I quit, bye." Worth it.
A few years later, I had to open the next day at Starbucks and could not afford to quit, so I just stayed up all night and walked to work. I barely made it to the end of my shift lol.
