“Above all, do not lose your desire to walk: every day I walk myself into a state of well-being and walk away from every illness; I have walked myself into my best thoughts, and I know of no thought so burdensome that one cannot walk away from it. Even if one were to walk for one's health and it were constantly one station ahead— I would still say: Walk!”

@gabrielesvelto this is exactly what I'm looking for! Thanks. Have you used one of these?
I'm specifically looking for ones that people have actually bought and used, as I have (far) too many draws of cables that don't actually deliver in reality.
@dch Ping me if you’re interested in investing in a USB cable testing device. :-)
I regularly meet with Americans at work. Every time they say my name I point out that the i in Craig is not silent. If my name was Crag then I'd spell it that way. Then I get them to say my name three times, properly. I am fixing America one small issue at a time.
@fesshole *nods* in the USA, Craig rhymes with Greg.

> My take on generative AI has pretty rapidly gone from a tentative, “it sucks and I hate it, but after the bubble pops, there might be a few very specific use cases for it, like with programming,” to a vehemently zero-tolerance stance. It’s all garbage, burn it down.
@sebsauvage « envoyer ses mots de passe sur internet » ? 🤔
@stephtara
There's a little hitch in the new submission rules for #chi2027 : if you submit a paper co-authored with former students and you can't reach them to link their ORCID/DBLP to their PCS profile, what to do? 🤔
(I know I still have a week to get them to do it, but it's not the first time students have dropped off the grid after graduating, I can't be the only one with that issue?)
Yes, it's good, and important when feasible, to participate in de-radicalizing people by approaching them with empathy and helping them understand that the path they are on is dangerous
But publicly *excusing* someone powerful and famous who's deep down that rabbit hole isn't that.
Literally just had this convo with a liberal friend of mine who tried to convince me that the person she had just watched in a debate defend zero exception anti-abortion laws was "in all other ways a kind and caring individual" and
No, I said. No they aren't. In no other way are they "kind and caring" unless those words no longer have meaning.
*They* can perceive themselves that way. *You* can perceive them that way. But the world does not rearrange itself to reflect perception.

i dont really run an active gameserver anymore but i also notice that i dont really hear/read much about opensource games... are luanti and veloren still the "popular" ones or are those simply the ones i am aware of?
whats the state here? something worth looking into to mix things up and maybe host as well?
Question – what OS should I install?
I have a Lenovo ThinkPad Yoga 11e with only 2 cores, 4 threads, and 4 GB of RAM. I'm looking for OS recommendations that would be suitable for this machine.
I'm considering Debian, possibly as a command-line installation, to see if I could manage without a GUI. I've also thought about something more exotic like OpenBSD. Regardless, I'd mainly like to use this machine as a portable typewriter. Importantly, I need TTS (text-to-speech) because of my personal accessibility needs—a screen reader is essential.
I enjoy experimenting with distros and learning through hands-on experience.
Any advise and tips are welcome!

@debby
Based on your requirements, I’d recommend Haiku, though I’m not sure about the state of its TTS.
I guess today's a "lets do N different mouse makes rocks do math" threads: this is yet another!
I was made aware that postfix has slop in it too, which means I will have to switch to Exim, which has an anti-LLM policy.
Unfortunately, Exim does not support the milter protocol, so I'd have to rewrite ryoms to work with Exim.
Alternatively: find an SMTP server that supports delivering to Aerogramme via LMTP, and supports milters, and has an anti-LLM policy.
That, or... write one. How hard can it be. For what I need, I don't need authentication, I don't need users, it never stores email locally, except during processing maybe.
