Dutch groups join Europe-wide push to end treaties that let companies sue governments - SOMO, 15 October 2026
Imagine your government shuts down a harmful gas field to protect thousands of people. The fossil fuel company that operated the field then sues your government, claiming billions in compensation for lost profits, which it pays for with your taxpayer money. It may sound surreal, but such cases are possible under investment treaties signed decades ago. The Netherlands is a major facilitator of this system, with more than 70 investment treaties signed with countries all over the world. Today, SOMO, together with other Dutch organisations, is asking the European Commission to take action against the Netherlands and its outdated investment treaties.

just putting this here because until recently i didn’t know it and i figured this might help others as well.
in michigan, if you receive an absentee ballot you can fill it in and insert it into the tabulator at your voting precinct. in light of everything happening, this seems like the safest bet for returning an absentee ballot, if you have the means to do so. the link takes you to the sos website, but to summarize,
Voters can bring their completed absentee ballot to their early voting site to insert directly into a tabulator.
The election inspector must verify that a voter is in the correct location and that the ballot has been issued to the correct voter.
Once this information is confirmed, voters will receive a secrecy sleeve and can insert their completed absentee ballot into the tabulator, just like at a polling place on Election Day.
Deadline: Voters may submit their absentee ballot at their early voting site through the entire early voting period ending the Sunday before Election Day.
also, i’ve heard folks say that early voting is cancelled this year. this is not true. early voting this year runs from 10-24 through 11-01.

The four AI KPIs were 2 AI training completion rates and 2 employee AI survey response rates. The board approved a +10% bonus modifier for exceeding them.
None measured actual productivity gains from AI. 🤷🏾♂️

What I find most interesting is a phrase like «This is NOT some kind of “social warrior” project, never has been, and never will be.». If you lurk on /r/linux, you can see the general right-wing sentiment growing, complaining about "political" or social issues getting raised. There is a clear, slow direction that the leadership of the project is taking, and, in his words, "the genie is out of the bottle".
