Really pleased to tell you that my last EP, Kiosk 67, is available on @jamcoop. For those who want an alternative to Bandcamp it's a co-operatively owned music store, based in the UK. I intend to make my forthcoming EP available there the day it releases too.

What Fungi Taught Me about Nourishment, Poison, Ecology, Hidden Histories, Zombies, and Black Survival
A beautiful examination of nature and human connection
Naturalist, forager, and educator Maria Pinto offers a stunning debut book that uncovers strange and beautiful fungal connections between the natural and human worlds. She mingles reportage, research, memoir, and nature writing, touching on topics that range from Black farmers’ domestication of the unforgettable aroma of truffles to the possibility that enslaved people wielded mycological poisons against their enslavers.
Pinto brings a new perspective and a distinctive literary voice to this mix of environmental and lived history, and every page sings with her enthusiasm for the networks in which we are embedded: fungal, ecological, ancestral, and communal. Join her in pursuit of beautiful, perplexing, delicious, and deadly mushrooms as she explores this understudied kingdom’s awe-inspiring diversity and discovers how fungi have been used by people, especially those on the margins, for survival, pleasure, revelation, and revolution.

Seeing Donald Knuth sing praise of Claude and be swooned by it for seemingly fuzzing a solution to some problem he was working on while:
- Having no formal proof it is correct
- Claude immediately lost the illusion of cohession as their session continued
I'm growing convenced these things are a siren song to the human brain. It's creepy how fast people will resign themselves to these text generators just cause they can brute force and correctly predict a few solutions.
@andnull Yeahhh I've been thinking about this type of thing recently, too https://mas.to/@nielsa/116155283958385166
It's an eerie, lonely feeling to look at those one thought of as good at the exact things needed to see through the flashy deceptions of LLMs not just fall for them, but commit fully and strongly. And, in my experience, then refuse to face factual points that should convince them to let go of the delusion...
Guide on how to comply with California's "Age Verification" AB1043 as a software developer:
What to do:
- Don't give a shit because you don't live in California.
- If you live in California, leave California.
- If leaving is not an option, wait for a legal precedent for compliance has been set and implement the minimum requirements of the bill into your software (a very simple age bracket selection box during install will probably do more than enough).
What not to do:
- Already start proposing stupid and extremely deep implementations into xdg-desktop or d-bus. (Ubuntu)
What absolutely not to do:
- Freak the fuck out and relicense your entire codebase to a non-free software license because of a law not going into a effect for another year while you don't even live in California... (MidnightBSD)
This is extremely significant. When we founded The Hague Group in Jan 2025, nine states stood together. Today, 40 states at our meeting on accountability.
It is clear: Only collective action can break the power of unilateral punishment meted to states that support Palestine.

Hi all - new year, new costs. Currently the server is being paid out of pocket mostly, and I need renewed support to ensure it makes sense to keep the server online. There are fewer people active on the server, but if everyone who uses the server chips in $1.50/month, we'd cover costs communally.
Please consider chipping in if you use akademienl.social.
Warmest regards,
