Genera running on the bare metal of the T490s, with a runtime written in Rust. It boots through UEFI and then takes control over all the hardware. Linux is running in a virtual machine, the Genera terminal emulator has been enhanced to support the virtual serial console port.

I'm not claiming that this is production ready yet, but I believe that I'll have it good enough to become my daily driver next week.

Something I've noticed while on book tour for the past couple of weeks is that Mastodon is a really good way to let people know about bookstore events. So many people I've met on the road have told me that they found out about my book tour from me or other folks on the fedi. I think it's partly because so many book-loving people are on Mastodon. But also if you compare Mastodon to places like Bluesky or Insta, the community here has a higher percentage of actual humans vs. bots or operatives.

@catsalad I even read that in Owen Wilson's voice.

This week I read 2/3 of The Three-Body Problem triology and my head’s a bit… full 😯🤯

I realised that the art of programming is going away. Unless the AI bubble bursts soon, software becomes commodity and stays like that. The change of the paradigm is so big that it's hard to say what happens next. I have my concerns. Now, I know that programming was not perfect but it still saddens me to see the art part going away. Luckily, I didn't treat it as my defining thing, so I'll move on.

@Gina

Yeah, some men are triggered by bright colors, not unlike bulls.

@pluralistic I have not installed an 'ad blocker', I have installed a 'privacy protector'. The only ads that I block are ones that affect my privacy. Amazingly that seems to be almost all of them!

@mediapart je ne l'avais jamais vu en vidéo mais le faux sourire, ça fait peur..
