This afternoon I'm trying a new approach to digitising. I've got a small stack of 1920-40 letters, and am photographing them all in a set and shall upload them as a single #InternetArchive item. This is slightly annoying from the IA browsing perspective, because they're not all related other than roughly in time and in connection with Q33169956, but it will be faster! Each will get its own catalogue record, and so will be in context there (along with transcriptions etc.).
I do rather like the #InternetArchive zoom feature, with its progressive higher-resolution loading the more you zoom (is that the IIIF API in action?).
Does anyone know what this crest might be? I assumed it was a buffalo to start with, but it does say 'tiger'…
#IRL examples:
Network of Learning,
#OpenStreetMap, @openstreetmap
A community-built map, not controlled by #Google or #Apple.
Small Public Squares,
#Mastodon, @Mastodon
Decentralized social media—no ads, no algorithms, just people talking.
Sacred Sites,
#InternetArchive, @internetarchive @internetarchiveeurope
A non-profit library of the web, preserving knowledge for all.
Mosaic of Subcultures,
#PeerTube, @peertube
A #YouTube alternative where communities host their own #video platforms.
The Internet Archive (IA) @internetarchive seems down.
As far as I can tell there is no information shared on the mentioned platforms on this downtime. Perhaps @internetarchiveeurope knows more?
I find it a bit strange & perhaps too coincidental given that people were using IA to share the CECOT CBS snippet. Is it down because of this?
Update: IA are working to resolve this.

This morning I've rejigged my #InternetArchive backup script (that syncs all my uploads back down to here) and it's running well — but I've just noticed how little space I have left locally! I think for the first time in ages I actually Need More Storage. Does this make me a #dataHoarder?!
Many thanks to @internetsociety for hosting a great workshop where @blmurch shared lessons from @internetarchiveeurope She jumped into an impromptu discussion about connecting wider research communities to historical Internet data as part of the Internet Data Trust work. If you’re working with web archives or historical datasets, I’d love to hear your experiences and ideas — please share below. #InternetArchive #WebArchives #InternetData #Research #DataTrust #DigitalPreservation

That document where SpaceX admits to dropping potentially lethal debris on Canada is still publicly available on their website, which is also kind of wild: https://starlink.com/public-files/Starlink_Approach_to_Satellite_Demisability.pdf
They seem to think it's just a whoopsie and no big deal. But...it's actually a violation of Canadian airspace! And also, terrifying!
SpaceX is scary.
@sundogplanets In the case they would delete it, it is archived here: https://web.archive.org/web/20250906143632/https://starlink.com/public-files/Starlink_Approach_to_Satellite_Demisability.pdf

Seriously!
#rclone has built-in support for uploading to and downloading from the #internetArchive (because IA has a fairly S3-compatible API). This is super useful for keeping local copies of items up to date without re-downloading everything.

Jean Armour Polly, aka the Net-mom & the person who helped popularize the phrase “surfing the internet," celebrates the Internet Archive’s 1 trillionth webpage. Her message highlights the ephemerality of websites, the importance of preserving digital culture, & honors the librarians & archivists who make it possible.
