As a brown migrant living in the UK legally, this is precisely why there can be *no* compromise on the fundamental right of seeking asylum. Pretty quickly it’s anyone who ‘looks’ like an asylum seeker - ie brown or black - who is targeted. No one is safe from this.

J'en ai terminé avec HackerNews. On avait parfois des commentaires intéressants dans les discussions, mais ils sont maintenant complètement teubés, ces startuppers fans d'IA et de frameworks js à la con.
@sebsauvage : depuis des années, j’ai pour rêgle de ne surtout pas lire les commentaires sur HN, parce que ça me fout ma journée en l’air.
Par contre, je regardais parfois la homepage pour voir les liens qui s’y postaient. Mais c’est terminé. Ce ne sont plus que des annonces pour la version 42.12 du nouveau modèle d’IA de chez Meta et des blog posts qui en parlent. C’est limite parodique !
(après, si tout post qui ne va pas dans ce sens est flagué, je comprends mieux pourquoi c’est comme ça)
Et globalement, tu as quoi à faire avant de prendre le large ?

Sortir le moteur inboard, un peu de résine et fibre, primaire, peinture, antifouling, construire mat et bome, faire le gréement courant, quelques passe coque et vannes, monter un hors bord derrière.
Éventuellement installer un sondeur vu qu'il y a le trou.
A ce moment je peux être à l'eau en sécurité, il restera à faire un bel aménagement mais c'est pas urgent.

With that architecture, the user also becomes dependent on two servers. Not the same as a proper client at all.

every few days there's a new high-minded article about how no-one reads books anymore and especially not the Youths, and none of them seem to be aware that the Youths are out here reading and writing one-million-word online fics that they simply don't talk to the adults about because the adults scorn them as not "real" books

musing that "in the past" gathering lots of data about people was not done/mostly pointless because there was no capability to then sift through the petabytes of daily info about everybody to make anything useful out of it. but now we have the second prong of giant inference machines and "AI". these now make it quite viable, even desirable, to suck up as much info about anybody as they can...they can finally process it... (see palantir and stuff...)
