musing that "in the past" gathering lots of data about people was not done/mostly pointless because there was no capability to then sift through the petabytes of daily info about everybody to make anything useful out of it. but now we have the second prong of giant inference machines and "AI". these now make it quite viable, even desirable, to suck up as much info about anybody as they can...they can finally process it... (see palantir and stuff...)
