@Tattooed_Mummy @jim_easterbrook It may. There are specific things you're just not allowed to do from a browser. These are for safety reasons because it's just insane to allow any generic script that kind of access. So to get that access they need specific permission to run on your device and yeah, it's maybe nothing more really than their website with more access to your device and this can be great or a major mistake on your part.
@crazyeddie @jim_easterbrook as I said, it's for them. For example Facebook want access to all your photos and contacts. They need the app for that

Also: for every situation where the vendor of the app is not the same as the website owner, how would you even do that without introducing enormous problems? Like the Mastodon app I use, how would you replace that with a web page?
