After a good night's sleep:
What bothers me re Star Trek and how they depict librarians/archivists (and historians) is the role 'the computer' plays.
My frame of reference is TNG, Voyager, and DS9; and there no visible curation of information takes place; it's always 'the computer'.
But the non-mention / non-inclusion of people in knowledge work makes 'the computer' seem omniscient (and not just an interface to a curated body of knowledge.
In the current moment, this hurts.

What division of Starfleet are archivists and librarians in?
(and what about historians?)
I think there are interesting cases to be made for each Sciences, Operations, and Command.
In the end, every operation needs archives and people to take care of the information therein. Archivists, librarians, and historians might not need Starfleet, but Starfleet needs them.

@lavaeolus that's made me realize that there is nothing that looks like a library or a librarian in Academy. i mean you might expect students to spend some time within that kind of space and with people related to knowledge curation.
