Israel Refuses Source Code Transfer in $3.5B Air Defense Deal
Israel will not grant Greece access to the primary source code for the command-and-control system of a $3.5 billion air defense array. Moshe Patel, head of Israel’s Missile Defence Organisation, confirmed the code was excluded from the license agreement signed in August—Israel’s largest arms export deal to date.
Withholding the code raised concerns over Greek military autonomy, as access is needed for local technicians to maintain and upgrade the system independently.
Israel’s Defence Ministry clarified it will develop a customized "Greek source code" under exclusive Greek control. The deal marks the first time Israel is supplying a complete defense array against threats from UAVs to ballistic missiles, with plans to scale exports to contenders like the UAE.
