Thinking about this conversation with @Astridd and @Eceni, I'm of the opinion that although #capitalism is incompatible with human survival, it will collapse under its own weight before human survival becomes impossible. The question is how much damage it will do before it collapses.
Obviously collapse isn't a thing to hope for in itself -- it will cause enormous disruption and suffering -- but the sooner it happens, the less destructive it will be.
@Eceni (I think we agree on this but) if we view capitalism and the market economy as inherently toxic (as I do), is work to make it less unequal not counter productive? We need to be building the new structures, not trying to shore up the wanton excess of the old.
