@JMacfie @yogthos and I'm sure that's true. #Capitalism has a perverse incentive to externalise costs – the more shit you can dump into the commons, for others to pay to clean up (or to poison the commons for ever, which is the cause, inter alia, of the #ClimateEmergency), the more profit you make.
Any sensible economic system would not allow this.
This evening I have been listening to one of @Eceni 's podcasts and thinking about my failure in trying to lead the village's planning working group, and about the cognitive dissonance underlying my Tricycle project. I suspect this essay will be a grim read; it's not well formed in my mind as I sit down to write.

It's not that our politicians don't know what's needed to slow #ClimateChange. It's that they don't care.
Their two priorities are
1. winning the next election, under the UK's absurdly dysfunctional, archaic and undemocratic system;
2. pleasing the big donors, who include the #FossilFuel industry, the car industry, and the armaments industry.
They do not care what happens ten years ahead: five is as far as they can see.

@markhburton @urlyman but in a #capitalist economy that precious green steel is being squandered on #AI data centres, SUVs, armaments and ballrooms, and consequently the rollout of the infrastructure needed to give us a sustainable future is being sabotaged.
@markhburton @urlyman what's depressing is that if we use the early production of 'green' steel to make more electric arc smelting plant and new green electricity infrastructure, then the amount of green steel we will be able to smelt (from existing scrap) will ramp up quickly, then the resource poverty gap (where we have far less quality structural material than we're used to) will be relatively short...
