rare lore: back in 2018 I came across a 500-page technical deep dive guidebook on SimCity 2000. In a process that took several years because they had so much backlog of manuals, magazines, etc, I sent it to Gaming Alexandria and they made a proper professional scan of it and uploaded it to archive.org. You can read it right now!
When I say technical... I mean there's a section on how to hex edit your save files.
@ishambard @0xabad1dea yeah literally, i bought it on psvita in like 2025 just to see what the modern psvita store purchasing flow was like (ive heard theyre shutting it down for real this time sometime soon 😔) and was never Really able to figure out the game

I was confused by the game until I realised that you had to make cities that were completely unliveable, with places people worked, places people shopped, and places people lived far apart, in massive homogeneous blocks. It felt like the designers had never actually visited a city and just wanted everyone to build dystopias.
Then I visited the USA for the first time and saw that zoning laws made their cities actually look like that.
