Prime Minister Takaichi should consider funding AI subscriptions because widespread use could help Japan overcome language barriers, programmer shortages and productivity challenges. https://www.japantimes.co.jp/commentary/2026/02/20/japan/japan-claude-subscriptions/?utm_medium=Social&utm_source=mastodon #commentary #japan #sanaetakaichi #chatgpt #claude #ai #artificialintelligence #llms

@thejapantimes No. Don't. This is still just a hype, and the cognitive debt from overuse is a much bigger issue than the fear of missing out.
@thejapantimes No. Just no. General purpose chatbots are a blight. I'm retired, I have no skin in the game; but I'm a programmer, I worked in education, I've worked with statistical language models, and I'll tell you: if you want a generation to fail and fail hard, addicting them to this crap is a good way to go about it. (Speaking of word patterns, it's somehow not surprising to see the Gearoid Reidy byline over this pitch. I'm sure the fellow means well.)
@fgbjr If the fellow means well, he's a complete idiot. I never saw him write something that didn't make me facepalm at best and angry at worst. Not a single thing.
@thejapantimes probably shoulda kept this one off the fediverse feed lol
