Tunisian director Kocher Ben Hania’s film The Voice of Hind Rajab, which depicts the killing of a young Palestinian girl in Gaza, won the “Most Valuable Film” award at the Berlin International Film Festival’s Cinema for Peace event.
Ben Hania refused the award in protest, following the honoring of former Israeli General Noam Tibon, prompting criticism that the ceremony falsely equated victim and perpetrator.
The film, using real emergency calls and reenactments, is also nominated for Best International Feature Film at the Oscars.
