#Irish President, Michael D Higgins says outlould what other leaders are afraid to. The #UN has the power collectively to stop the #genocide by establishing a humanitarian corridor. We can't go to war against the #Israeli military regime but we can stop them from killing any more #Palestinian children if we want to. Demand your government do something now. Support the #HigginsUNInitiative.

…The debate over whether the #war in #Gaza constitutes #genocide has also played out at the #ICJ, where #SouthAfrica has brought a genocide case against #Israel. The court has yet to rule on the matter.

…Genocide has a specific definition in #InternationalLaw: particular acts carried out with intent to destroy a group in whole or in part. The accusation hits a painful nerve for Israel, a state founded after #Nazi Germany’s attempt to exterminate European Jewry.

…Yuli Novak, director of B’Tselem, said she was not seeking to minimize the “horrific attack” that #Hamas had perpetrated on Oct 7. But it had prompted an #Israel assault on #Palestinian life in #Gaza that had spiraled into #genocide, she said.

“The report we are publishing today is one we never imagined we would have to write,” Novak said at a news conference in Jerusalem. “But in recent months, we have been witnessing a reality that has left us no choice but to acknowledge the truth.”

How European Ministers came from "review trade ties" to "keep a close watch on Israel’s compliance with a recent agreement to improve humanitarian aid access into Gaza."???

"Member states were presented with 10 options, including:

Full suspension of the agreement.
The EU suspension of its preferential trade and/or research pillars.
An arms embargo.
Sanctions on Israeli ministers.
Halting visa-free travel for Israeli citizens to the #EU.
Banning trade with Israeli #settlements.
However, none of the options gathered the necessary support during the meeting.

Reacting to the decision, Amnesty International’s secretary general Agnès Callamard said: “The EU’s refusal to suspend its agreement with #Israel is a cruel and unlawful betrayal of the European project and vision, predicated on upholding international law and fighting authoritarian practices, of the European Union’s own rules and of the human rights of Palestinians."

2/3🧵: a couple of hours later, an even larger #walkout was staged by the under/post grad #students of political & social science of #Edinburgh #university, leaving the #graduation ceremony hall mostly empty. The #uni now has a stark choice: the money from its financial entanglement with #Israel and companies that actively enable #genocide in #Gaza, or the money and the brains of its students. ✊🏽🇵🇸
