The famous story of Hannibal crossing the Alps with elephants has its first possible proof. Archeologists on a dig in southern Spain have found an elephant foot bone. With the exception of ivory it is very rare to find evidence of elephants in Europe. It is thought that the animal died before reaching the Alps on Hannibal's expedition. Carbon dating has put it from the time of the Second Punic War. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cdr2xl1e41eo

Ancient bone found in Spain could be from Hannibal's war elephants

It would be the first hard evidence that elephants were used in battle by General Hannibal.
