A lot of people complain that when they federate their blog over AP, and people comment in the fediverse, the authors don't see notifications. Because they're buried deep in the admin interface. I haven't got my Ghost blog federating yet (watch this space), but from memory I experienced this with #Plume and #WriteFreely.

I have an idea about how to fix his.

@strypey @matt @activitypub.blog @index @john when I post a blog entry (I use grav) I always toot, grab the id of the toot and edit it into the post with a 'comment here'. So my comments are all on Mastodon, I don't have to moderate comments on my blog or weed out spam. It's just a bit more fiddly than I'd like, ie going back to the post and doing the edit.
But since I hardly ever blog, and I get very few comments, it doesn't seem worth making more effort.

@rogerparkinson @strypey @matt @activitypub.blog @index @john I already get alerts via the WordPress / JetPack app regarding new comments on my WordPress blog. Federated responses are the same way.

Maybe apps could get people using AP with their blog to enter the fediverse @handle they want to receive notifications on. Then when someone's comments on one of their blog posts from the fediverse, the app could send a notification to that @handle with a link to the comment post. Maybe even forward the whole comment post?

Does this sound even vaguely workable?

@strypey

That sounds like a good idea, but I'm not a dev so I don't know how feasible it is technically. Sorry I can't help on this front 馃槮 Maybe @pfefferle (author of WordPress Fediverse plugin) might be better person to ask?

(Vaguely recall there might have been someone else's plugin long time ago that linked a Mastodon account? Not sure though.)

By the way, had a go on Ghost federation and it's pretty nice. There's a dedicated section for Fediverse timelines, replies, notifications etc.

@FediTips @strypey the WordPress plugin already sends mail for new Followers and Reactions to posts (likes, boosts, comments) 鈽猴笍

To an email address? That's better than nothing. But getting notified of comments from fediverse replies within the fediverse would be a better UX IMHO. Easier to click through and see them, reply to them etc. Apps are getting better all the time at recognising links to AP posts and opening them in-app.

@strypey @FediTips what do you mean by "getting notified of comments from fediverse replies within the fediverse"?

if someone replies to one of your posts, it will be added as comment. same with likes, shares and boosts!

so with the ActivityPub plugin your site IS part of the fediverse!?
