@atpfm @siracusa when you talk about your “car rebuilding channels” are there a few you really regularly enjoy? Most of the ones I seem to get served via the YT algorithm are pretty click baity and not actually the content I’m looking for.

@tqm YouTube’s gonna YouTube, so don’t expect miracles, but I enjoy these channels despite all the expected tropes:

https://youtube.com/@m539restorations

https://youtube.com/@matarmstrongbmx

https://youtube.com/@tavarish

YouTube

Tavarish

My name is Tavarish and I make videos about buying, modifying, and breaking cars. I also have opinions, most of which are wrong.
YouTube

Mat Armstrong

I am Mat Armstrong from Leicester UK. Follow me as i build & modify cars. I dont really specialise in any manufacture of car, neither am i professionally trained, just a regular guy winging it as i go along restoring each car with my own personal touch (even if that means getting the angle grinder out) I hope my content brings a smile to your face and maybe inspires you to get on the spanners yourself. There would be no point in me listing what car i own at the moment as i switch and change so often, but you are likely to see Audi's, Mercedes, VW, Maserati's, Bentleys & more. I do like German engineering but im not scared to give the others a try 😆 At the end of the day im here for a good time & never take things too seriously so enjoy!! Mat Armstrong ⬇️ Im always active on my other social accounts aswell which are below ⬇️
YouTube

M539 Restorations

Welcome to my channel which is mainly focused on older BMWs. The place where we do repairs, revivals, restorations and go on car buying road trips. My name is Sreten. I am not a professional mechanic, just a normal IT guy whose hobby and passion for cars have gotten out of hand. 2001 BMW E39 M5 x2 (Skövde) 2007 BMW E60 M5 6-speed - project Raleigh 2003 BMW E39 530i Touring - project Rottweil 2002 Alpina B10 V8S - Project Suonenjoki 2002 BMW E46 325i Touring - project Cologne 1989 BMW E32 750iL - project Karlsruhe 1991 BMW E31 850i 6-speed - project Marseille 1980 BMW E21 323i - project Castellón 2011 BMW E92 M3 - project Frankfurt M539 Restorations doesn't provide technical support or repair service. Due to an extremely high influx of emails and messages, requests such as: what's wrong with my car, can you fix my car, diagnosis, buying advice... and of similar nature will not be answered as I physically can't keep up. I appreciate your understanding.

@atpfm #askatp Why still nothing about #ubiquiti selling equipment to the Russian military serving their terrorist war against #ukraine? https://mastodon.world/@sommer/115994194499797542

@sommer It’s been in the internal notes document since the story broke, but a) other things have taken priority, and b) I’d like to see more corroboration from entities other than a place shorting the stock. Got additional sources?

@sommer My doubts are not about the use of the products by Russia. What I’d like to see some less-biased sourcing on is Ubiquiti’s specific complicity (as opposed to resellers doing stuff without Ubiquiti’s knowledge or permission). But so far, I’ve only seen stuff that points back to this single Hunterbrook report.

@siracusa Europe is under attack, an American company supports it, and you don’t talk about it, you’ve lost my support and my membership, all the best.

@sommer I suspect we'll talk about it eventually, but I currently don't share your certainty about the validity of this story. Why are you so certain that it's accurate? It's a single source that is extremely motivated to make the stock go down, and even that source says things like "Ubiquiti appeared to have placed an IP-based ban on firmware updates for Russian users." How does that fit?

@siracusa my point stands, you didn’t talk about it and I’m really disappointed. Whatever you make about it, it’s on you, good luck and all the best.

@siracusa I understand that, but it's still pretty disappointing that you didn't even talk about it, or at least mention it briefly and then officially postpone it. After you've been praising the company so highly over the last few months and years, I think, in my humble personal opinion, it deserved at least a mention.

@siracusa I thought so. ATP would have an interesting take considering BMW Panoramic iDrive and ‘OS X’ leans into a more software-defined experience (with fully touch screen HVAC controls and bonus flush door handles). But even assuming the new design is desirable, 2027 US release may not work for Casey’s ‘itch.’

@atpfm Not that I'm trying to talk @caseyliss into a Porsche, but I wouldn't worry about "replacing the battery" problems on EVs. All EV batteries are warrantied until 100K, probably lasts twice as long, and Casey will get another itch by then.

@marcoshuerta If you're referring to the part where I asked @caseyliss to consider how much "replacing the battery" would cost on a Taycan, I meant the (tiny) 12V battery, not the car's giant battery pack.

@caseyliss @marcoshuerta Probably because you’re thinking, how much could replacing a tiny 12V battery cost? I dare you to look it up.

@siracusa @caseyliss @marcoshuerta BMWs only fault in this is the non-standard posts they use. But you can easily add them to a normal 12V when the time comes.

@siracusa @caseyliss @marcoshuerta having replaced a 12v battery in a Macan Turbo I know I saved > $500 off dealer cost by borrowing a programmer from a friend to register the new self installed battery.
