@tqm YouTube’s gonna YouTube, so don’t expect miracles, but I enjoy these channels despite all the expected tropes:

@atpfm #askatp Why still nothing about #ubiquiti selling equipment to the Russian military serving their terrorist war against #ukraine? https://mastodon.world/@sommer/115994194499797542
@sommer It’s been in the internal notes document since the story broke, but a) other things have taken priority, and b) I’d like to see more corroboration from entities other than a place shorting the stock. Got additional sources?
@sommer My doubts are not about the use of the products by Russia. What I’d like to see some less-biased sourcing on is Ubiquiti’s specific complicity (as opposed to resellers doing stuff without Ubiquiti’s knowledge or permission). But so far, I’ve only seen stuff that points back to this single Hunterbrook report.
@siracusa Europe is under attack, an American company supports it, and you don’t talk about it, you’ve lost my support and my membership, all the best.
@sommer I suspect we'll talk about it eventually, but I currently don't share your certainty about the validity of this story. Why are you so certain that it's accurate? It's a single source that is extremely motivated to make the stock go down, and even that source says things like "Ubiquiti appeared to have placed an IP-based ban on firmware updates for Russian users." How does that fit?
@siracusa my point stands, you didn’t talk about it and I’m really disappointed. Whatever you make about it, it’s on you, good luck and all the best.
@siracusa I understand that, but it's still pretty disappointing that you didn't even talk about it, or at least mention it briefly and then officially postpone it. After you've been praising the company so highly over the last few months and years, I think, in my humble personal opinion, it deserved at least a mention.
@atpfm @caseyliss Can’t wait until ATP discovers BMW ‘Neue Klasse’ and the firestorm that will follow. (Deutche edit)
@wktenbrook I am very aware already.
@siracusa I thought so. ATP would have an interesting take considering BMW Panoramic iDrive and ‘OS X’ leans into a more software-defined experience (with fully touch screen HVAC controls and bonus flush door handles). But even assuming the new design is desirable, 2027 US release may not work for Casey’s ‘itch.’
@atpfm Not that I'm trying to talk @caseyliss into a Porsche, but I wouldn't worry about "replacing the battery" problems on EVs. All EV batteries are warrantied until 100K, probably lasts twice as long, and Casey will get another itch by then.
@marcoshuerta If you're referring to the part where I asked @caseyliss to consider how much "replacing the battery" would cost on a Taycan, I meant the (tiny) 12V battery, not the car's giant battery pack.
@siracusa @marcoshuerta FWIW I legit thought you meant the main pack
@caseyliss @marcoshuerta Probably because you’re thinking, how much could replacing a tiny 12V battery cost? I dare you to look it up.
@siracusa @caseyliss @marcoshuerta BMWs only fault in this is the non-standard posts they use. But you can easily add them to a normal 12V when the time comes.
@siracusa @caseyliss @marcoshuerta having replaced a 12v battery in a Macan Turbo I know I saved > $500 off dealer cost by borrowing a programmer from a friend to register the new self installed battery.
@siracusa @caseyliss I got curious and looked it up. That had better be one hell of a battery!
