@dansup @koen @shlee We don't use that either, although we've used Mattermost for years in our company.
But Matrix offers so much more, including E2EE. No wonder it's been gaining popularity among organisations that need security and autonomy:

Group calls can still be enabled by setting an undocumented env var (M_CALLS_GROUP_CALLS_ALLOWED=true).
But agreed that that's not a great sign, nor guarantee for the future.

@dansup It seems to be a good choice
@dansup anyone has 😜 with https://www.rocket.chat ?
@dansup I had good memories of the thing! my company used to host an instance itself until they went M$ teams ... maybe this here is interesting in these circles: https://docs.mattermost.com/product-overview/non-profit-subscriptions.html
@dansup
It's like slack and can be selfhosted
@dansup Mattermost seems like a good option if you decide to set up your own server, but there are other options, such as Matrix, if you need decentralization, but whichever is more convenient for you. Matrix is similar to Discord, while Mattermost is more like a classic forum organized by topics.
@dansup From personal experience, quite lacking in community-focused functionality or integrations in general. For communities, Zulip or a forum would be preferred.
@dansup Hmm, seems very enterprise focused, not sure about that.
