LibreOffice is more than just software – it's a worldwide community doing cool things together. Here's what we did in January: https://blog.documentfoundation.org/blog/2026/02/09/libreoffice-project-and-community-recap-january-2026/ #foss #openSource #freesoftware

LibreOffice project and community recap: January 2026 - TDF Community Blog

Here’s our summary of updates, events and activities in the LibreOffice project in the last four weeks – click the links to learn more… We started January with some news about The Document Foundation’s governance: an updated Conflict of Interest Policy for the Board of Directors. Later in the month, the Board also voted on version 1 of TDF Community Bylaws. We continued our series of posts about the Open Document Format (ODF): The philosophy behind ODF: openness, freedom and control; The Future of Open Standards and the Importance of ODF; and Why Open Standards are Extremely Beneficial to End Users. Then there was the LibreOffice Podcast, Episode #6 – discussing language support with Jonathan Clark from TDF. (The episode is also available on PeerTube.) Italo Vignoli from the foundation posted a State of the LibreOffice Project, with slides about development, translators, donations and downloads. Finally, we prepared for FOSDEM 2026

(Note that the first point in that list is about explicitly *destroying* the "community".)

@libreoffice

I've been using #libreoffice for 10 years in my consulting business & i love it. all my clients use #msoffice, and my presentations & spreadsheets are seamless💙

I do very much want libre to release a tablet version. i always use 2-in-1 laptops, so i can notate on the fly, but i can't draw freehand in libreoffice
especially being able to sketch diagrams or mark up things in the presentation app. i really miss that feature from powerpoint😞

@WorldTravelerAll7 Glad you like it! 😊 As you know, we're a community open source project with limited resources, so we focus on the desktop app. But anyone who wants more improvements to the mobile version can help our volunteers, or consider funding developers: https://www.documentfoundation.org/certified-developers/

LibreOffice Certified Developers — The Document Foundation

LibreOffice Certified Developers LibreOffice Certified Developers are individuals who have proven their ability to master LibreOffice code: to develop new features; provide L3 Support to enterprise users; research and develop solutions to new or unknown issues; design and develop one or more courses of action to correct these issues; evaluate each of these courses in a test case environment; and implement the best solution to the problem. Once the solution is verified, it is delivered to the customer and given back to the community.

@libreoffice

maybe i'll do that💙

i am referring to "desktop", not a "mobile" version. i have a windows laptop, so i use the windows desktop version. i don't use it on my phone

but i use convertible laptops with touchscreens so i can fold it over & take notes while surveying operations

is there a group working on making LibreOfffice work on touchscreens?

@libreoffice I'll admit, I don't really use LibreOffice, other than for opening files from people who obstinately send me MS Word files.

It's not a failing of Libre Office, I have no need for any word processor ... but I recognise that I am not the world.

LibreOffice is very important. Free software and open standards are important. SO, congratulation OpenOffice on your latest release, may it help free the world of software.

It's the strongest argument available for weaning users off of predatory Microsoft, and proprietary Apple, products. #Linux

@analog_feelings You know, there's indeed a lot of AI slop out there, so we understand if you're getting fatigue. But you could just ask us: there's actually a hard-working team of real people at TDF (and hundreds of volunteers) creating real software and content.
