I heard one person at a meeting I was in, an older person mind you, saying that they wouldnt be beholden to microsoft office anymore because the subscription was so pricy, and that they switched to #LibreOffice
It literally made my day, because its proof that people do have limits, even as theybget older, of what abuse they'll take from companies, you just have to show them how they're abused and that theres a better way. Hopefully, I can show some of my older coworkers the freedom of #linux!
I give a fiver each month to the wonderful FOSS-type things below:
- Signal (killing Meta's WhatsApp)
- Libre Office (slaying Microsoft's 365)
- GrapheneOS (kicking Google Stock Android in the goolies)
If you use any of these - and you can afford to - why not set up a monthly dontation to the wonderful organisations above.

Coming soon: Microsoft calls it auto-save to the cloud, which might sound convenient for Word users. Just be aware of what's in it for them -- feeding their "AI" database, among other things -- and think about potential consequences. https://techcommunity.microsoft.com/blog/microsoft365insiderblog/save-new-files-automatically-to-the-cloud-in-word-for-windows/4445216
It feels so good that a world without Microsoft is possible!

Thankfully, my #LibreOffice suite opens and works perfectly fine.
6. En cours : acculturation au monde du #libre
Mais, il y a encore du taf… #workinprogress 😅
Okay #LibreOffice users, what does it mean to change the "theme" of a document or presentation? I've tried this in LibreOffice Impress, but nothing is different. Not the color scheme, not the font.....
Finally I canceled my company's Google account. Moved mail to Fastmail and docs to Libreoffice plus Nextcloud Files.
I used to pay £23 for #Google and #Microsoft accounts per month, just to have cloud storage and #Office.
I've since moved to #Proton for storage, VPN and email (about £10). The money saved has gone towards monthly donations to #LibreOffice (365 replacement) and #Signal (#Meta#WhatsApp replacement) - both #FOSS.
What I'm trying to say, I guess, is that if you #LeaveBigTech - and can afford it - donations to the organisations that try to keep the internet free and private would be excellent.

🤬 Microsoft bans LibreOffice developer's account without warning, rejects appeal • Neowin
「 Recently, we reported on LibreOffice, accusing Microsoft of intentionally using complex file formats as a tactic to lock in users to Microsoft Office, hindering open source alternatives like LibreOffice.
Now, Microsoft has banned LibreOffice developer, Mike Kaganski, from using its services, citing an "activity that violates [its] Services Agreement" 」
I have to say, this is not an ideal way for LibreOffice Writer to look when I open my first document in it after installation…

Migration MS Word > #LibreOffice Writer, E02
Jour 1
Migration MS Word > #LibreOffice Writer, E03
Jour 8
