All three of Canada's badgers are now species at risk. Badgers are incredibly important keystone species that create habitat for other species like nest burrows for the wonderful but endangered Burrowing Owl. Badgers are specialist predators of Richardson's ground squirrels, and get killed by secondary poisoning when poisons like stryctnine are used. Stryctnine cannot be used on ground squirrels without a risk of secondary poisoning to at risk badgers, threatened Ferruginous Hawks, and endangered Swift Foxes. Stryctnine causes a terribly painful and cruel death.
Despite the endless harm to biodiversity and ecological health, and the inhumane use of stryctnine, #CBC is again on the disinformation bandwagon and is promoting the poisoning of ground squirrels, badgers, hawks and carnivores. The use of stryctnine is responsible for the extirpation of swift foxes from Canada.
Tell the deplorable AB and SK govts that you do not want stryctnine allowed again.
