Took an overnight bus to #Oaxaca and rode a sleep deprived half day to Teotitlán, at the base of the climb into the Sierra Norte.

I took 2 days to climb the 1500m to Benito Juarez, and camped at the lookout around 3100m.
Amazing sunset and sunrise views, and nobody else there.
@ZaneSelvans Are those some sort of monster yucca stalk?
Giant blue agave I think. The larger inflorescences are about 10m tall.
@ZaneSelvans That's totally freaky
Dr. Seuss plants for sure. The hummingbirds love them.
Then toodled around in the forests of the Pueblos Mancomunados co-op at 3000m for several days. Lots of quiet sitting and reading.
@ZaneSelvans What kind of co-op is this?
It's an ecotourism co-op, made up of 8 indigenous communities in the Sierra Juárez. They manage a bunch of communal forest land and share revenue.
Basically had it all to myself.
@ZaneSelvans Looks incredible, I love your setup!
Sometimes it's easy to imagine I'm in Colorado or California. But then I'll run into plants like this. And remember I'm above 10,000 feet.
Then a brake scorching 1500m descent down to Tlacolula, the Mitla Valley's market town for more than a thousand years.
