The US turned a blind eye on border patrol.
81,000 undocumented migrants were maroons in hostile areas and left for dead, according to former border patrol agent Jenn Budd.
"A ProPublica report finds that more than 170 U.S. citizens have been detained by ICE agents at raids and protests across the country. More than 20 citizens were held in detention without being able to contact their loved ones or a lawyer. ICE agents also arrested 130 citizens, [...]."
Those 20+ were held longer than a few hours.
