I switched from #macOS to #Linux #Debian13 between christmas and new yearโ€˜s eve.
And already I ask myself, why I didnโ€˜t switch earlierโ€ฆ

@bsm by coincidence I was researching yesterday to switch to Linux on my MacBookPro 2019 Intel. However the things I found was that many things were not supported like audio. Maybe it is this particular machine, but maybe somebody can point me in the right direction?

@jenstec @bsm You can test before installing and it's very easy.
- I suggest Elementary or Mint Cinnamon. Download an ISO and follow instructions to flash to a USB thumb drive.
- Next, with USB thumb drive attached, reboot the Mac and hold the option key at the chime (I think that's the key to hold). This should present you with option to continue boot using macOS or Linux.
- Once booted to Linux you can test audio, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Mac Wi-Fi cards often need a firmware upgrade to work.

@jenstec @bsm This process gives you a sense of what will work by default. When I installed Mint onto my 2012 MacMini I had to update firmware on the Wi-Fi card so I knew I would need Ethernet after the install. That was fairly easy. Audio and Bluetooth were fine.

While booted off of the USB thumb drive you can open apps, browse the web and test anything. It's actually pretty fun to test-drive an OS that way. If it's not for you restart and you're bark in macOS.

@dennyhenke That's good advice, I will test run it like that! Thanks.
