@daniel @nicoco @debacle @greatsword @gajim @Monal I still think that XMPP should be used as a compatibility label. Ideally every XMPP software would have a label "XMPP compatible, CS 2022 Core-IM-Mobile" (CS for "Compliance Suite"), in the same way as we have device "USB compatible, USB-4".
It's not a problem to have different software and name, the important is that they work well together.
@marting that is more disadvantage than advantage, xmpp lacks a client that offers a seamless multi-platform experience
#DeltaChat is in a completely superior league when it comes to resiliance and digital independence since it is possible to smoothly migrate from one server to another keeping all your chats, groups and contacts, without your peers even noticing, in #xmpp clients this is not possible and what is worse, the groups are centralized depending on the server, if it dies the group die
@arcanechat so why didn't yall just make an xmpp client that does that??
It's a lot of work and developers have other priorities?

Maybe unified branding could help adoption.
But I kind of enjoy seeing my non-techie friends being amazed that this @gajim thing I use on my computer works with Conversations on my Android phone and @Monal on their iPhone.
There is some educational value about that: learning that computers aren't all about closed "products" and "services", and that the concept of interoperability even exists.

@nicoco @debacle @greatsword @gajim @Monal True story: My dad saw the photo of the Dino, XMPP and Conversations LEDs from #39C3 and asked me about the Dino one (he recognized XMPP and Conversations). I briefly explained what Dino is (Desktop client, compatible with Conversations) and he then went ahead and installed and set up Dino on his own.
Yeah I don't think this multi vendor thing is that complicated after all.
