We used to look closely at #whatsapp Usability/UX. Not anymore.

Meta is enshittifying WA to become a social media app, charging companies for access to followers, showing ads, and pushing AI slop down the throat of billions of people.

#deltachat remains all about pleasing private messaging UX. Resilient, secure and decentralized. Its trivial to get started as a family, group or little org. Its trivial to migrate between android, iphone, desktop, Ubuntu touch.

We are basically doing what #signal and in particular moxie refused to do or declares impossible: federation.

Both #email and #activitypub ecosystems are all about federation.

However, #deltachat is vertically centralized in that all UIs use the same #rust core which implements all networking, encryption, chat/group/message logic in a single centralized place. The now 40+ #chatmail mail relay network is driven from centralized code.

At each level replication and federation is built in.

#deltachat Desktop can now run on Firefox and Safari, entirely avoiding Electron and Chromium! It's an intended side-effect of the "porting Desktop to Tauri" effort led by @treefit which aims to provide a non-Electron packaged version of the Desktop. Finally took the time to try out Delta Chat. (https://delta.chat/en/)

WOW. So smooth. Onboarding in 5 seconds and a small simple tools for organizing.

This is what i been dreaming of as a community organizer.
Yesterday i onboarded 20 people, half of them 70 years +. And everyone agreed: normally im critically of new tech, but this is amazing, surprisingly intuitive, and it just works.

Thank you so much @delta and all the developers making the small handy apps.

Imagine a mobile text chat app that's a cross between Delta.Chat and Silence (defunct SMS app forked from early Signal);

As well as being the mobile app for my personal email address, it could also replace my SMS app. With the capacity for E2EE text when the other person's app supports either AutoCrypt (or something based on the variant of Signal's protocol that Silence uses).
