We hereby challenge _all_ other messaging apps, FOSS or not, to provide a more convenient private onboarding experience than #deltachat

1. Install app
2. "Create new profile"
3. Enter nick name, tap "Agree and continue"
4. Tap "+" and "new contact" and provide/scan qr code/link

Voila! A secure private chat, familiar to those coming from Whatsapp or Telegram (without "AI" shenanigans).

Note: chat identities are private and can not be queried or discovered. Servers keep no track or metadata

Jeg er fortsat meget begejstret for #DeltaChat og tester videre. Nu har jeg kørt en server op. I skal være velkommen til at bruge og teste. Men husk at det er test for øjeblikket.

Når jeg har fået erfaringer og stadig synes det ser effektivt op laver jeg en ny drift server. Det ser ud til at sådan en kan drives for drives for 5-10€ om måneden og drive tusindevis af brugere.

Social identification is private, between people though ephemeral #P2P #E2EE messages.

Servers see messages with random sender and recipient addresses, but those can not be mapped to a phone number or public handle. Servers see IP addresses. But you can use Tor, or a VPN, if you want to hide that.

It' not all bad :)

Wow, I just tested #deltachat - and I am really impressed by the experience.
This could perfectly replace WhatsApp for our family chat group.
- easy onboarding via the default account
- fast and easy for group chat and sharing photos
- easy to extend the chat by small apps (polls, lists, calendar) by simply attaching the apps via the GUI
- End-to-end encryption by default
- A Desktop app is available

@marting that is more disadvantage than advantage, xmpp lacks a client that offers a seamless multi-platform experience

#DeltaChat is in a completely superior league when it comes to resiliance and digital independence since it is possible to smoothly migrate from one server to another keeping all your chats, groups and contacts, without your peers even noticing, in #xmpp clients this is not possible and what is worse, the groups are centralized depending on the server, if it dies the group die

So I installed #DeltaChat using the #BSDCafe server that Stefano provides. Let's see how I get on with this then. 🤔
