What if a state tries to mandate us as #deltachat app devs/distributors to shut down a chat profile?

Nothing. It can't be done.

We have no list of chat identities, have no handle or data about them, and don't mediate the message transfer.

However, EU #Chatcontrol politicians and Russian authorities would want us to insert backdoors into our FOSS code. But that is nothing than can happen overnight, and we are fine with friendly forks already. Resilient private internet communication ftw :)

Curious to hear people's opinion about Delta Chat...

Especially with an eye on the possibility of mandatory 'client-side scanning' for messaging platforms like Signal and WhatsApp (i.e. turning these messaging apps into a direct eavesdropping device for the police), I'm wondering if Delta Chat might be a good alternative.

Delta Chat is based on email but it functions like an ordinary messaging app. It's PGP end-to-end encrypted, decentralised/federated, open source... so it should be possible for many people to run their own messaging servers, thereby circumventing (possibly, hopefully) the legal requirements of the chat control bill.

Tant és quin dispositiu utilitzi, tots ells estan sincronitzats amb tots els contactes i grups del meu compte a #DeltaChat i, a més, fan de còpia de seguretat automatitzada però sense enviar res al núvol de cap empresa. Que tens un problema en un dels dispositius sincronitzats? des de qualsevol dels altres afegeixes un segon dispositiu i fet.

No hi ha res que pugui fer un administrador d'un servidor #chatmail (#DeltaChat) per a desxifrar els missatges que passen a través del seu servidor. Els missatges es xifren en els dispositius dels usuaris, el servidor chatmail només fa de transport dels mateixos. I l'aplicació DeltaChat xifra tot per defecte, no és configurable, no es pot desactivar el xifrat.
Ningú pot demanar a un administrador d'un servidor chatmail els continguts dels missatges perquè no pot fer res de res. 💪

Tants Estats Units com Anglaterra tenen lleis importants que exclouen els correus electrònics i potser la UE també ho farà i, per tant, els servidors chatmail de #Deltachat quedaran fora del #ChatControl. 🍿

V2 #deltachat is rolling out after weeks of internal testing, a major milestone revising how end-to-end encryption works and bringing more beautiful contact and group profiles, direct access to chat-shared apps in the title bar and a "new email" action with setting a subject for those using a classic server.

Best of all, users and developers don't need to co-ordinate anything for upgrading to V2 despite the massive security rework behind the scenes :)
