There's a lot of discussion about George #Orwell and #1984 around, and i'm happy.

Although I agree that both #AnimalFarm and 1984 were clearly a critique of the Soviet Union, I would also claim that they were not direct critiques of #Communism as such & definitely not critiques of Marxism.

What these excellent pieces really were, were critiques of concentration of #power. That the object of power always becomes power of itself. Noble aims become corrupted & corruption can be framed as good.

We should definitely not do the Soviet Union again. That was a horrible experiment gone wrong. (And I think trying to do it on top of the old Russian Empire was definitely part of the problem.)

But we should do #socialism, again and again until we get it right. And I think many European countries have been getting it right here and there.. And also wrong again.

@CartyBoston Definitely. The concentration of wealth is equal to the concentation of power. The greatest lie capitalism ever told, I think, is to convince us that there could be one without the other.
