@gruff I mean China has already managed to reach sustained fusion for over a minute which is orders of magnitude longer than previous efforts
@yogthos Maybe. But I'm 60. My Dad used to tell me that he was told it was 10 years away in his youth. It was still 10 years away when I was at school. My father sadly passed a few years ago. He never saw it. I'm certain 'they' will get there eventually....... It just needs another 10 years or so for commercial viability.....
@gruff if you look at the amount of actual funding fusion has received, it's not really a surprise that there's been little progress. If China is going to devote state level resources to making fusion happen, that's going to be a whole different game.
And the payoff is huge, it would basically secure China's energy needs, and geopolitically it would be a new Sputnik moment.
