China has launched the BEST project, a next-generation "artificial sun" fusion reactor, aiming to achieve a self-sustaining burning plasma by 2027.

The goal is to produce more clean energy than it consumes, a major milestone. The project is open for international collaboration, with scientists from over ten countries signing the Hefei Fusion Declaration to jointly tackle the engineering and physics challenges of harnessing nuclear fusion.
