Freelance person that wants me to tell them their accessibility overlay did a good job.

Hey, can you look at random Website dot com and tell me if Y accessibility overlay is good?

Me. Without looking at the website because I *know* it will be shit. Sure I can bill for writing up a 20 page report on why this overlay fucked up your website. This will be fun.

Them. Great! Let's hop on Zoom with our marketing team. Nobody in the actual web development, only marketing and manager dipshits and then you can painstakingly go through the website, even the text heavy pages, and tell us our accessibility overlay is shit while we act profoundly baffled by this news for almost 2 hours. Won't that be a fun workday?

Me. Oh fuck, I'm so sorry my dudes, but I am very busy until 2027.

Them. Why?

me. Cancellations like the one I'm gonna do to you in 2 seconds. Take care now, bye bye then.

@WeirdWriter
There is a thing we use (name censored to protect the guilty) to agrigate social media mentions to see what people are saying about our app. It is not accessible. My communications with them on this topic have gone thusly:

Me: hey, I need to use your site for my job but I can't.
Them: Oh no! We're so sorry. Let's go jump on a call.
Me: Jumps on Zoom, demonstrates how everything below the top nav bar doesn't load
Them: Oh, goodness! That's pretty bad. Thanks for showing us! We'll make sure our new accessibility team prioritizes this right away.
one year later
Them: Hey, our sight is now WCAG compliant! Would you mind trying again?
Me: still broken.
Them: Oh my gosh! Really? That's crazy. We can't reproduce this at all! Would you mind showing us on a call?
Me: jumps on Zoom, demonstrates the exact same problem
Them: Oh wow, that's terrible! Thanks so much for showing us. We'll look into this right away!

Wash, rinse, repeat

@WeirdWriter When talking about former Twitter, its owner, and accessibility, is like talking about a vampire in front of garlic.
But I have found something even worse than overlays: false accessibility declarations claiming the site is partially conforming or even totally, without saying what's right or wrong. And then, having the feedback address redirected to the generic support of the company, or worse, to a page where a contact form should be, but isn't.

Ah yes, for that, I have this solution. https://sightlessscribbles.com/posts/20250724/ @elettrona

The 'Accessibility' link is a Lie: My Adventures in Weaponizing Corporate Virtue Signaling, Sightless Scribbles
