A young Vancouver Island marmot in a patch of pearl everlasting flowers.

There were fewer than 30 Vancouver Island marmots (Marmota vancouverensis) in the wild in 2003. Thanks to a conservation breeding program, there are now over 400 marmots.

If you'd like to learn more and support the Vancouver Island Marmot Recovery Foundation's efforts to save the species from extinction, visit https://marmots.org/
