Any favourite property #floorplan 2D/3D design apps for #Linux?

I've tried some and all have good points but also drawbacks that limit usefulness.

I am renovating a property 🏠 and want help modelling and remodeling. I don't want to use subscription services. Reasonable UX, ideally undo and ability to input and view internal room dimensions is important.

All suggestions and experiences appreciated. 🙏

@happyborg https://www.sweethome3d.com/ was made exactly for this, good support for precise sizing of walls and rooms. Library of furniture to get started quick. Download it or use online.

@IanTwenty I've tried this and it's a great piece of work but some basic flaws make it much less suitable than it could be.

Have you use it for this?

One example: it treats wall dimensions as in the centre of the wall. No way to input internal room dimensions (or display them), when this is the most useful. Every other app I tried supports room dimensions or both.

There are other issues. Much is very good, especially undo but I'm surprised it doesn't do some essential things better.

@happyborg it does require a bit of a technique, I have made plans with internal dimensions before. This video tutorial explains the method:

@IanTwenty Thanks Ian, that's helpful. It is unintuitive, complex and hard to learn but might be good enough rofl

@happyborg Hi. How about web based Draw.io? (I think it's free in Windows Store too). I've not used it for floor plans before but I've just checked and you can add floorplans by selecting 'More Shapes' (bottom left) > Other > Floorplans. All the best!

@happyborg We did it with a simple #xournal / #xournalpp drawing as we have devices with pen-support. As a drawback, you need to construct everything first and everything isn't exact, but it just works. Otherwise #scribus or #libreoffice Draw might work.
