@vkc 2 ways in recent times, depending on arch:

  1. Distrobox with Debian container, and then install the official Signal package.
  2. Unofficial Flathub flatpak which essentially repackages the deb from Signal.

By using opensuse repositories, following this procedure: https://discussion.fedoraproject.org/t/accurate-way-to-install-signal-in-fedora/117236/6
There is alternatives, but I prefer a simple package

@vkc been using the #OpenSuse build service on Fedora 42: https://software.opensuse.org/download.html?project=network:im:signal&package=signal-desktop
Sadly the package is/was broken for Fedora 43 due to missing dependencies and I just gave up and moved on to the official Flatpak.

Fells kind of bad though due to the security issues and it being not official.

@vkc I had been using the Flatpak, but there's now an appimage in testing which I'm now using, and so far it's working great!

@vkc Flathub! Add two environment variables to use a native Wayland window and enable secrets keyring integration (available in the manifest README).

If you find a way to get .deb files to install through Fedora's package manager let me know.

@vkc i use the flathub version. The security warning it gives you makes me nervous, but I’m currently unsure of what else to do

@vkc Flare flatpak but i dont know if id use something so experimental if i was a decently large online personality facing security threats/creeps/harassers. When I need the full electron app, I use flathub package.
