# Quote posts in Pachli Current

There are a number of design decisions here that are up for discussion and I do expect things will change over the next month or so in response to feedback.

## How to start a quote
If you server supports Mastodon quoting the option to quote will now appear when you press the "boost" button, consistent with the Mastodon web UI.
I considered introducing an extra button on the controls, but there's not a lot of space there.
This menu will appear even if you can't quote the post -- for example, because the post's author does not allow quoting. This is so you can see *why* quoting is not possible. If it didn't you would be left wondering why a post that appears to be quotable isn't. It also ensures you don't tap the button intending to quote, and inadvertently boost the post instead.
This does mean that boosting (if your server supports quotes) is now a two-tap process.
You cannot quote direct messages. I might change that in the future, to allow you to quote direct messages if you also at-mention the author of the post you're quoting.
