There's only so much they can do making profits selling it to themselves before, eventually, they start getting tired of just throwing away money with the only real returns being in screwing each other over. There's just absolutely no way they can artificially prop up the con forever.
The more they invest in this, the more they're going to lose when it does inevitably crash. They'll find a way to get us to pay most of it, but they can't get us to pay all of it probably...

Re: advertising in AI:
I'm less concerned about an ad clearly appearing before the output text, than I am about the possibility of distorting info.
Info about sponsors/competitors could be subtly changed in the generated media, influencing the world view of people at scale towards commercial interests.
Essentially this would change advertising from "pay for a banner" into "pay for bias" disseminated en mass.
What happens if most entertainment becomes AI generated with subtle, individualized biases designed to influence each person, step by step, show by show, game by game?
Think The Matrix, but we each get our own, designed just to influence us.
