I don't understand how
the people who want to protect their own sensitive information from corporations in order to stay safe and not become victims are deemed paranoid,

But the corporations demanding
to verify our identity asking for our legal name, gender, sex, date of birth, email, phone number, home address, location, IP address, MAC address, list of apps, purchase history, access to contacts, device model, official ID, passport, birth certificate, fingerprints, facial scan, palm scan, iris scan, preferred sleeping side, and underwear color are not? 🤨

@Em0nM4stodon Its sad how many people think basic security is overreaction.

It's kind of freakish when you think about how much of your personal self you willing give over to companies. They are supposed to serve our purposes... mind_blown

@Em0nM4stodon You haven’t bought enough media, haven’t bought Trumpcoin, don’t own a platform that spreads misinformation and filters out truth, etc.
The narrative gets shaped by those who own information.

@Em0nM4stodon When I started mi privacy journey, I was afraid my family and friends were going to call me a "paranoid", but the truth is most of people know, even if it is subconsiouly, that our current situation is terrible and we need to do something.

@Em0nM4stodon My family and friends see me as a tin-foil hat psychopath just because I worry about my privacy. It's insane how embedded into society this shit is

@Em0nM4stodon security is always the excuse, this is about control. Western governments and corporations are increasingly unpopular, and instead of trying to improve policies and behaviour they are turning to authoritarian control.
We need systems that fail well. What happens if the government is taken over by fascists? What happens if bad actors buy out the company? These problems now are so obvious that you have to be naive and ignorant to not see them.

@Em0nM4stodon Paranoia is not judged by whether they are out to get you, but whether others are inconvenienced.

@Em0nM4stodon The most unfortunate part of this as an American is that there are so many cases where you have a choice but its not a good one. Many employers are requiring extended verification that invade even more due to DPRK IT workers. This extends past employment on to things like password resets.

Facial recognition is everywhere and AI powered. More secure facilities are requiring this. Who knows who all is feeding this data where and how it is packaged and sold.

I know I have an employer who uses Equifax for employment verification. They can tell you every job I have ever had and how much money I made each year.. all the way back to when I sacked groceries after high school.

The issue is not one of personal decision, its of the fact that we need to make laws to prevent these abuses of the powerful.

People view is as crazy because this is happening everyday at every junction of life.

There is a US DOT OSHA rule that goes "Packages of radioactive material must be secured against movement and placed as far from the driver as practicable. You cannot carry them in the cab or passenger compartment where people are riding."

if this seems crazy and fairly common sense you need to remember that this rule is written in blood. Someone likely died because some company could make a few extra bucks putting radioactive material in the cab of the truck.

The data brokerage industry is estimated to be at 500 Billion per year. The product of that industry is simply cataloging as much about as many people as you can.. the biggest customer is advertisers. you think they haven't figured out how to manipulate people in to thinking those of us that do care are crazy??? They absolutely have. This fight isn't about people who want privacy and those who don't. This fight is about making the actions that allow people to profiteer on the backs of civilians illegal.

@Em0nM4stodon I know you know! </rant>
