last month, a friend of mine had a confrontation in #SomervilleMA with a violent driver who wanted to drive their vehicle into a protest. the driver ran over their bicycle and did their best to endanger the other people present who were standing in front of the vehicle.

today, they've shared that the Somerville police department will be charging them with a felony for the vehicle being damaged by running over the bicycle. the same Somerville PD who let the driver go that day, and who has been stonewalling their request for the incident report.

we live in a world gone mad with violent motonormativity.

@SnoopJ Was this related to the no kings protest? I saw this in pdx, but was unaware of something like that happening in somerville. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yyUVJgGTNIQ

Or a different protest?

anyway, if people know of bike-friendly lawyers who take criminal cases in the #Boston area, I would be glad to pass on any recommendations

did I mention that the driver has an ongoing case for drunk driving? it's not clear if it was even legal for them to operate the vehicle at the time, as nominally an OUI leads to a 30-day license suspension (and the OUI was <30 days before the ramming).

considering how much this reeks of "this guy is a cop or is friends with cops" it seems likely the suspension was waived.

but it goes to show the great extent to which the law bends over backwards to make the world a more dangerous place.
